Cefic Publishes Final Version of Responsible Care Logo Use Guidelines - Clone

Cefic has published the final version of its revised guidelines on the use of the Responsible Care logo in Europe under EU Directive 2024/825.

19.10.2026

Dear Members,

Cefic has completed its work addressing the risk of the Responsible Care logo being considered a “sustainability label” under Directive (EU) 2024/825 on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (“Greenwashing Directive”) and has published the final version of the Guidelines for the Use and Protection of the Responsible Care Logo in Europe.

Throughout this process, TKSD has collected feedback from its members through a survey, submitted the feedback received to Cefic together with its own assessments, and shared its review of the relevant regulatory framework in Türkiye with Cefic.

The key points highlighted in the final guidelines can be summarized as follows:

  • The Responsible Care logo should not be used on product packaging, in product advertising or marketing materials, in product-related technical documentation, or in consumer-facing commercial communications.
  • The use of the logo may be permissible in communications directed at professional users and investors, internal corporate communications, certain corporate reports, and specific B2B contexts, taking into account the relevant national legislation and the context in which the logo is used.
  • It is recommended not to use the logo in green, to avoid the version featuring the “Driving Safety & Sustainability” tagline, and to use the updated logo versions provided by Cefic.
  • When using the logo, it must be clearly stated that Responsible Care does not constitute a product or company certification, but rather represents a voluntary commitment to the Responsible Care initiative.
  • Although the Directive does not apply directly in Türkiye, as Türkiye is not an EU Member State, a company's establishment in Türkiye does not, in itself, exempt it from the Directive's scope when its communications are directed at consumers in the EU. Therefore, it is important to also consider the national implementing legislation of the relevant EU Member State targeted by the communication.

Cefic also considers the current measures concerning the use of the logo as part of a longer-term transformation process and is continuing its efforts to develop a more structured verification and certification model for Responsible Care. TKSD believes that such a model could strengthen the credibility of Responsible Care, while emphasizing the importance of avoiding unnecessary costs and administrative burdens, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Cefic will also hold a Policy Horizon Webinar on 26 October 2026, from 14:00 to 15:00 CET, to discuss the new Responsible Care logo guidelines and recent developments. Members can register for the webinar, which was previously announced to our members, by clicking here.
